Europe Day 3: Amsterdam-Cologne (Tuesday July 8)

We woke up to a windy rainy day.  Not exactly walking weather.  So we took the tram to the Van Gogh museum.  Another great thing to visit.  Besides the paintings, it was fun to see how he used a simple grid system to overcome his problems with perspective in the early part of his career.  No pictures allowed, except of the reproductions printed on the walls.

Vera bought some fabric at a quilt shop, we stayed dry in a shopping mall, then had drinks at the oldest pub in Amsterdam while waiting for the train to Cologne.

The train ride went quickly through more rain.  Unfortunately, our hotel is far from the train station.  But it's very nice, we had a fine meal in their restaurant, and are now watching the current rout of Germany over Brazil.  Got to try a Kolsch beer and watch some excited German fans in the bar.  Pretty fine beer if I do say so myself.

Hope the weather improves tomorrow.

Only a reproduction.

Vinyl records are "in" in Amsterdam.

Neat atmospher, but I wasn't impressed with the beer.

On to Germany.

Weekend gardens as seen from our hotel.

Not a bad beer to watch soccer by.

7-1 Germany, and we saw it here,
