Taliesin West and Cell Phone Panic

Yesterday we visited Taliesin West followed by a scare when our cell phone stopped working. Since we have only the one phone, it was panic mode until I removed and reinserted the battery for a hard reset. We're up and running again.
Taliesin West was Frank Lloyd Wrights western home and studio for the last 20 years of his life (age 70 to 90), and when he did about 1/3 of all of his work. And I retired at 62; makes me feel like a wimp! It is now a combination architectural school and museum. Don't miss it if you ever visit the Phoenix area. Just make sure to get reservations.

A Vera Zentagle, not a Frank Lloyd Wright. Eat your heart out Frank!

One view of Taliesin West

Wright was "Form over Function" to the extreme. At the insistence of his wife, glass windows were added later, and he refused to change ANYTHING else. The pottery stayed where it was, and the glass built around it. If you had a Wright house designed for you, he designed the furniture and art work. And you put it where he said to put. No exceptions!

His furniture was noted for being uncomfortable (Form Over Function), although this piece was an exception.

Wright did not believe in sleep. He took frequent naps and only occasionally had a real nights sleep. The bed on the right was for naps, and he could be awoken any time of day or night. Strict instructions were given to not awaken him if he was sleeping on the bed to the left.

For you gardeners: this is how saguaro cactus is propped up after transplanting.
