We're on the road again, heading for Matera via Alberobello.
Alberobello is a U.N.E.S.C.O site because of its trulli. The region is the poorest in Italy, and these were the homes of the peasants. Whole families, along with farm animals, lived in these cone shaped huts made of limestone.
There are about 1500 trulli in the area, and the U.N.E.S.C.O. designation has turned an otherwise poor little town into a tourist destination.
We ended our brief stay in Alberobello with a food and wine pairing. Great food and great wine was had by all.
We traveled from a U.N.E.S.C.O. sight to the World Heritage site at Matera. This is our hotel room in a cave. More about Matera tomorrow.
Yesterday's word: Piano means the floor level in a building. This is the sign on the second floor of our hotel. Piano can also mean plain (like the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain) and slow.
Today's word: Camera
Hint: Something in every hotel you have ever stayed in.
