Eastern Europe Day 2 (Sep 25)

Today we traveled by subway and tram to Prague Castle to visit this vast complex, including St. Vitus Cathedral. The castle is one of the largest in Europe, but looks nothing like a castle. The Cathederal on the other hand is as impressive as any cathedral you will see in Europe.

We finally learned why there are so many Asians, particularly Asian wedding couples, in Prague. A popular South Korean TV show, "Lovers in Prague" has generated so much interest that there are now two direct flights a week from Seoul to Prague. We see weddings, or at least wedding photo shoots, everywhere. The Cathederal was packed with Korean tourists.

Views from up on the hill near the castle grounds. Nearby was Klasterni Pivovar, a monastery brewery and restaurant. We had a wonderful lunch and the great company of other visitors to Prague.

Down the hill is the Lennon Wall (as in John Lennon). After his death, and before the fall of Communism, Lennon became a symbol of freedom. Every night people wrote slogans on the wall, and the communists finally gave up trying to stop it. Today, it is the only place in Prague where graffiti is legal (although graffitti is quite prevalent throughout the city).
We're off to Poland tomorrow.
