We just got back from a wonderful week in New York City with Mark and Sandra. In that short week we did lots of walking, saw two plays, and tasted some great food, wine, and beer. The above statue sits in front of NYU’s medical center where Mark and Sandra work. NYU just opened this new multi billion dollar building on the East River.
As always, we like to take a stroll on the Highline. At the north end is Hudson Yards where a HUGE real estate development is taking place. In its center is “The Vessel”, part of the public space of this modern office and apartment complex. A must see!
Mark and Sandra live right across the river from Brooklyn. The river taxi is an easy and cheap way to get there, and we spent a lot of time exploring. This picture was taken in Prospect Park, which is New York’s second largest park.

Food is always a big deal in New York. The oysters were for Mark and Sandra, but one of those scallops was mine. As much as I hate to admit it, East Coast scallops beat those in the west. They are sweeter and have a finer texture.
A high light for us were the Tiffany lamps at the New York Historical Society. We had met Jim and Tanya the day before for coffee and Jim, a high school friend of Vera’s, told us about the museum.
No trip to New York is complete without a walk through Central Park. They were preparing for the New York Marathon, hence all the flags in the first photo. The last two were taken in the “Ramble”, 38 acres of winding path ways through a woodland setting.
Only in Brooklyn. That vintage TV was sitting out on the sidewalk with the trash. When’s the last time you saw one of those. We had dinner in Brooklyn on Halloween, and that was the display in a local funeral home.
It was a fun trip, with lots of walking. The streets are busy, but you can see some beautiful sights just by looking up. And before I forget, we saw two wonderful plays: “The Waverly Gallery” and “Come From Away”. Thanks to Mark and Sandra for hosting us.
