Hot springs and thermal steam vents are a common sight.
Iceland sits on the Mid-Atlantic ridge, which separates the North American tectonic plate from the Eurasian plate. The plates are separating, forming what is called a rift valley. Here we are walking down into that valley, with America to the left and Europe to the right.
When rivers meet this landscape you get waterfalls. Gullfoss Falls may be the best example.
Another view of this beautiful waterfall. Notice the crowds. We were both surprised by how many people were visiting these areas.
Tomorrow we are off to Ireland.
